The Girl in the Pool is a 2024 American mystery thriller film directed by Dakota Gorman and written by Jackson Reid Williams. The film stars Freddie Prinze Jr. as Tom, a married businessman who hides the murdered corpse of his mistress in his pool while hosting a surprise birthday party for his family. As the party progresses, Tom frantically tries to keep the guests away from the body while dealing with his paranoia and the family's growing suspicions.
The film also stars Monica Potter as Tom's wife Kristen, Kevin Pollak as his father-in-law William, and Gabrielle Haugh as Hannah, the murdered mistress. The Girl in the Pool is set to be released in theaters and on-demand on July 26, 2024.
Early reviews praise Freddie Prinze Jr.'s performance as the desperate Tom, with Variety calling it a "delightfully trashy affair" that "breaks no new ground" but is "a lot of fun". Roger Ebert's review notes that while the film never presents Tom as aspirational, his eventual journey towards redemption feels a bit too straightforward, missing an opportunity for a more preposterously pulpy satire.
